You might have seen several web addresses on the internet with a small logo or icon besides them and may be wondering how you can do that to your site. It is pretty easy and simple!

What you see is called a FavIcon in short of “Favorite Icon”. It helps identifies your site whenever it is loaded in the address bar.
To the best of my knowledge, all modern browsers support and can display favicons.
Creating FavIcons
First, create your logo with a .ico extention and save with the name favicon.ico.
There are many free software online that you can use in creating icons. Just browse for one of such.
Be mindful of the size, its important. The size of the icon should be either 16 x 16 or 32 x 32 pixels.
Secondly, upload your icon to the root folder of your web hosting server e.g WWW folder or something similar to that.
And finally, write the following HTML codes between <HEAD>…</HEAD> tags:
<link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”favicon.ico” >
and upload your page(s).

I came across this website when I was trying to learn more about favicons. I believe you will like it.
At HTML-Kit.com you can easily create high-quality favicon from any picture you like. All you need to do is:
- Upload your logo in the format you created it.
- Click Generate
- Preview your logo in a browser, then
- Download the files in .ZIP format
Then you can follow the steps I have numerated above. I hope this has helped? If your answer is in the affirmative, good!
