Most of you have heard the words Google adwords or have even used it. According to a survey done to people who have used Google adword, 95% have failed some miserably due to the rising cost of advertising on this giant, most liked search engine. Some have depleted their savings accounts with the notion that, by trying different advertising campaigns, they might hit the jackpot. Let us face the facts, in order for one to excel in any endeavor, hard work, determination and smartness must accompany the individual. Google adword advertising is no exception.
For the newbies, Google adword involves placing your ad on Google search results or at Google partner sites where you pay for only the clicks people made to come to your site with the hope of making sales. It involves choosing a keyword and setting out a campaign such that when people search for it, your ad appears in the search results. Due to competition, these keywords are bid just like in an auction where Google will show the highest bid keyword first. After all they want to make money too.
A good effective campaign, involves a thorough research on profitable keywords, competitors and ad format. Before you place your ad on Google, use a tool like Keyword Elite to guide you in your research. Personally I have been using it for 3 month now and I have noted 3%- 4% conversion rate while bidding below my competitors but it all depends on your niche. In fact with this tool you can peep through your competitor’s keywords that make sales, ads that made the sale and the price they paid for the keyword. It’s like a Google cheat sheet.
Now that you already have the research tool, its time to compose an effective ad campaign. When writing it you should try to make the display url match your keyword. this will increase click through and also improve ad quality score and hence you will pay less for the keyword. Google allows any word in the url provided that the domain matches with the domain of the destination url. For example if you are selling baby toys your display url can look like “www.example.com/Baby-Toys” which is more compelling. Don’t worry if there is no such page or directory.
Another tip is to match your ad to your sales or destination page so that a person that clicked on your ad will find what was promised in the ad, on the landing page. Through the research you did earlierĀ with the keyword tool, you are aware who your competitors are and how their ads look like. This will give you the opportunity to stay ahead of the game by improving your rivals headings by adding better descriptive adjectives like Best, Healthy etc. Generally people are attracted by promising words in the heading which will increases the click through ratio and hence pay less in bid due to improved quality score. In other words stand out from your competitors.
